First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, who is also the patron of Zimbabwe's Tourism and Hospitality sector, on Friday evening attended world-renowned evangelist Pastor Benny Hinn's Healing Crusade in Harare — a three-day event highlighting Zimbabwe's growing religious tourism profile.
The gathering, being held at The Miracle Gardens in Ashdown Park, has attracted thousands of worshippers from Zimbabwe and abroad, including visitors from Israel, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana, China, Nigeria, and Uganda.
Upon arrival, the visiting religious leaders were welcomed with Zimbabwe's signature hospitality and presented with the national fabric by the First Lady, affectionately known as Mother Zimbabwe, who explained its cultural significance as a symbol of unity and heritage.
Running until Sunday, the crusade aims to promote spiritual renewal, national unity, and cultural pride.
Pastor Benny Hinn, the internationally acclaimed US-based preacher, expressed joy at visiting Zimbabwe, describing it as "a nation of beauty, warmth, and faith." Earlier, he paid a courtesy call on President Mnangagwa at State House, where he praised the President's open-door policy and support for faith-based initiatives.
The Government's collaboration with religious organisations has been key to the smooth hosting of such large-scale events, which not only uplift communities spiritually but also boost tourism and local enterprise.
Religious tourism contributes significantly to Zimbabwe's economy through increased demand for accommodation, food, transport, and energy services, while enhancing the country's image as a welcoming destination where faith, culture, and hospitality converge.
Among dignitaries at the event were former First Lady Mrs Grace Mugabe, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi, and ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera.
Prominent local clergy in attendance included United Family International Church founder Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa and Heartfelt International Ministries leader Apostle Tavonga Vutabwashe.
