Former Norton MP Temba Mliswa has sparked debate on Twitter with a proposal for a transitional Zanu-PF presidium aimed at managing succession and easing internal party tensions.

In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Mliswa suggested a presidium with prominent party figures such as business mogul Kudakwashe Tagwirei, deputised and advised by veteran politicians including Chris Mutsvangwa, PV Sibanda, or Secretary-General Jacob Mudenda. He said these seniors could serve a single term before stepping down to make way for younger cadres.

"Viewing Zanu-PF as a party ready for transition, I would accept a Presidium with Tagwirei deputised (& advised) by Mutsvangwa, PV Sibanda or Mudenda. These seniors can then step down after one term and younger cadres roped into those offices," Mliswa wrote.

He further suggested that after 2030, constitutional amendments could allow for a vice-presidential seat for a female leader, such as Oppah Muchinguri, who would also serve one term before being replaced by a younger party member. Mliswa argued that such a structure would help manage provincial and tribal tensions, citing figures like Oppah (Manicaland), Mutsvangwa (Zezuru), Sibanda (South), and Mudenda (Matabeleland).

The proposal comes amid ongoing factional wrangling in Zanu-PF, including the highly publicised debate over the ED2030 agenda. Tensions were highlighted yesterday when a photo of Tagwirei and Mutsvangwa together went viral on X, with commentators suggesting it symbolised strategic alignment ahead of future party manoeuvres.

Mliswa concluded his post with a warning to younger party members: "Ndopanopindawo vakaita seni. We can't be entangled in all these battles without ambition for these offices too," underscoring the generational stakes in the party's succession planning.
