Zanu-PF Conference concludes with key resolutions

The 22nd Zanu-PF Annual National People's Conference, held at Mutare Polytechnic under the theme "Attainment of Vision 2030 through Economic Empowerment and Value Addition", officially closed today, capping days of deliberations on the party's people-centred revolution, economic empowerment, and national development. The conference provided a platform for delegates to refine strategies aimed at modernising Zimbabwe's economy, promoting industrialisation, and ensuring shared prosperity for all communities.

Tino Machakaire, Zanu-PF Secretary for Youth Affairs, presented resolutions from the Youth League, highlighting recognition of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's work across the country and First Lady Dr Mnangagwa's efforts in combating drug and substance abuse. The Youth League expressed support for President Mnangagwa to continue his term until 2030, called for the capacitation of vocational training centres for youth, and urged the allocation of agricultural land and public sector opportunities to young people. They also promoted patriotism through youth service, recommended expanding the youth quota from 10 to 60, and stressed the importance of recreational activities and sports development. Furthermore, the league called for increased funding for youth empowerment and continued campaigns against drug and substance abuse, commending President Mnangagwa for initiating several youth-focused projects.

The conference reaffirmed a prior resolution to extend President Mnangagwa's tenure beyond 2028, directing the party and government to initiate the necessary constitutional amendments before the next conference. Zanu-PF Secretary for Legal Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi, noted that progress on the resolution since its adoption at last year's Bulawayo conference had been slow, and emphasised that all party organs, including the Politburo and Central Committee, were to fully implement the directive. Other resolutions called for harmonising party affiliates to ensure cohesion, allocating motor vehicles to structures to enhance mobility, and developing guidelines for seamless internal elections. Additionally, the conference resolved that non-combatant cadres be accorded war veteran status upon death, while all veterans of the struggle should receive State-assisted funerals.

National Chairman Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri officially declared the resolutions adopted following motions moved and seconded by delegates, while the Central Committee report was also formally approved.

In his closing address, President Mnangagwa commended delegates for engaging in robust, thoughtful, and forward-looking discussions. He urged the party to operationalise the proposed solutions into actionable programmes and projects, stressing that villages, branches, and districts should create strategies and benchmarks to ensure economic well-being for current and future generations. The 22nd Annual National People's Conference thus concluded with clear directives for continued economic empowerment, youth development, and strategic national planning to achieve Zimbabwe's Vision 2030.
