The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has denied any involvement with the Southern African Regional Anti-Corruption Organisation (SARACO) in the recent arrest of five police officers on corruption charges.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi clarified that the operation was conducted solely by ZRP's internal mechanisms. "The Zimbabwe Republic Police dismisses claims by SARACO and subsequent social media postings alleging that they worked together with ZRP's Internal Investigations Section to conduct a sting operation which resulted in the arrest of five members for corruption," said Comm Nyathi.
He further emphasised that any anti-corruption organisation must be cleared by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) before undertaking operations in the country. "For the record, the Zimbabwe Republic Police effected the purported arrests without the involvement of SARACO," he added.
The statement underscores ZRP's commitment to handling internal disciplinary and corruption matters through its established legal and investigative frameworks.
