Zanu-PF in fresh ED2030 push

Zanu-PF Harare Province chairperson Godwills Masimirembwa says churches must throw their weight behind a party resolution calling for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in office until 2030, despite the President repeatedly stating that he will step down in 2028 when his second and final constitutional term ends.

Masimirembwa made the remarks at the launch of Masowe4ED -  a new Zanu-PF affiliate -  where he urged religious leaders to set aside doctrinal differences and rally behind what he described as national development priorities.

"We stand firmly committed to resolution 1 as a guiding pillar for our collective progress. It is vital that faith leaders set aside doctrinal differences and unite in purpose," he said.

He argued that unity between religious institutions and political leadership was critical to achieving Zimbabwe's economic goals.

"Only through such unity can we achieve the national economic transformation that Zimbabwe urgently needs," he said.

Masowe4ED, together with other Zanu-PF affiliates under the National Men's Forum for Economic Development (NAMFED), held a march in Glen Norah in support of President Mnangagwa and the government's Vision 2030 agenda.

Masowe4ED chief convener and senior adviser Obey Mapuranga said the march drew far higher numbers than expected.

"We had anticipated a turnout of about 20 000, but the 40 000 who came was a remarkable surprise. This overwhelming presence is a clear showcase of patriotism and unity among our people," he said.

Masowe4ED chairperson Onwell Vergesa said the group would scale up its involvement in government programmes and deepen its ties with the ruling party.

"We are proceeding to get our congregants Zanu-PF membership cards. We are implementing programmes that support National Development Strategy 2 together with NAMFED," he said.

The calls for Mnangagwa to remain in office beyond 2028 continue to stir national debate, with the President maintaining that he will respect constitutional limits.
