A bilateral meeting between the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and the South African Police Service (SAPS), aimed at strengthening cooperation in combating cross-border crime, has concluded in Harare with several resolutions adopted to enhance joint security efforts.
The high-level engagement was attended by ZRP Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba, SAPS National Commissioner Lieutenant General Sehlahle Fannie Masemola, ZRP Deputy Commissioner-General Learn Ncube, and senior police officers from both countries.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the two-day meeting was productive and reinforced existing collaboration between the neighbouring states.
"The Zimbabwe Republic Police-South African Police Services bilateral meeting has concluded in Harare, with several resolutions in the fight against crime being made," Nyathi said.
"The delegations from the two countries were led by their respective police chiefs - Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba and General Fannie Masemola - during the highly fruitful two-day engagement."
Nyathi added that the SAPS delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe, at his Mukwati Building offices.
Zimbabwe and South Africa have in recent years intensified joint security operations along their shared border to curb smuggling, illegal migration and other transnational crimes. Authorities say the latest meeting builds on those initiatives, with a renewed commitment to intelligence sharing, coordinated operations and capacity building.
The resolutions adopted are expected to further strengthen bilateral policing cooperation as both countries seek to address the evolving nature of cross-border crime in the region.
