Mrs Nancy Mafudza Mhete, the wife of Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) National Assembly Member for Epworth North Constituency, Mr Zivai Mhete, has defected to the ruling Zanu-PF party, citing what she described as tangible economic and development gains under President Emmerson Mnangagwa's administration.

In an interview, Mrs Mhete said her decision was motivated by the Government's development programmes, which she believes are transforming livelihoods and driving national progress.

"I joined Zanu-PF after witnessing the positive initiatives led by the Government. It is the hope of every Zimbabwean to see the country progress. Remaining in opposition while the nation makes significant strides in improving the economy holds no value. We must support Government programmes that empower every citizen," she said.

Asked whether her move would have implications for her marriage, Mrs Mhete said her political choice was a personal right, stressing that Zimbabwe's democratic environment allows individuals to freely associate with political parties of their choice.

"I was raised in a Zanu-PF family, so I want to return home. Yes, my husband is in the opposition; it is his choice. Who knows, he might even join Zanu-PF in the future. Zimbabwe is a democratic nation," she said.

Mrs Mhete said she remains hopeful that her husband could eventually follow suit and join the ruling party.

"It is of no use to remain in opposition politics when everyone joins the ruling party. I will try to encourage him to join Zanu-PF," she added.

She also expressed gratitude to Zanu-PF Youth League Deputy Secretary for the Commissariat, Taurai Kandishaya, whom she credited for persuading her to join the party.

Speaking separately, Kandishaya said Zanu-PF remains a mass-based party anchored on the values of unity, peace and development, adding that the ruling party continues to attract citizens from all walks of life who share its national vision.
