Zimbabwean businessman and football patron Wicknell Chivayo has publicly celebrated legendary football coach Sunday "Mhofu" Chidzambwa, presenting him with a brand-new Toyota Fortuner and a cash gift in recognition of his immense contribution to the game.
Chivayo took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday to pay tribute to Chidzambwa, describing him as "one of the few names in Zimbabwean football that have shaped the DNA of this game."
Chidzambwa, who hails from Chivhu, is renowned for transforming both Dynamos FC and the national team, the Warriors, through a combination of discipline, tactical precision, and team-focused leadership. Under his guidance, Zimbabwe qualified for its maiden Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) appearance in 2004 and won the nation's first COSAFA Cup, alongside three other regional trophies.
Chivayo highlighted the coach's famous mantra, "no STARS, just STRUCTURE," noting that it instilled humility and teamwork among players while maintaining professional discipline. "He never allowed ego to eclipse teamwork," Chivayo wrote.
The businessman also praised Chidzambwa's ongoing patriotism and commitment to local football, even in his later years, citing his active involvement in the Coaches 4ED initiative and his recent support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa's efforts to back local football.
As a token of appreciation for Chidzambwa's lifelong dedication to football, Chivayo announced that the legendary coach would receive a 2026 Toyota Fortuner 2.4 GD6 4x2, valued at USD 72,000, fully paid for. Additionally, Chivayo included USD 20,000 in cash to cover lunch and fuel. The vehicle is ready for collection at Victor's Exquisite Car Dealership.
"His firm yet humble leadership has made him a LEGEND in football, which deserves proper recognition," Chivayo said.
Football fans and fellow sports personalities have lauded Chivayo's gesture as a fitting tribute to one of Zimbabwe's most iconic coaches, celebrating both his achievements on the pitch and his enduring contribution to the development of local football.
