2 boys 8 and 9 stone crocodile to death, drags it home

Villagers in Hlengani under Chief Tshovani in Chiredzi were left in shock after two boys allegedly stoned a crocodile to death in a local stream and dragged it home as a trophy.
The incident occurred at Machoka Stream, which runs through Hlengani village, when the two juveniles were returning from a soccer game at a nearby playground. According to witnesses, the boys spotted a young crocodile swimming across the stream and proceeded to pelt it with stones until it died.
After killing the reptile, the boys allegedly dragged the crocodile by its tail through the village, reportedly intending to show their parents proof of what many described as a daring but dangerous act.
The unusual sight drew the attention of villagers, who were left stunned by the incident and immediately alerted the police and the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks). Officials later collected the carcass of the crocodile from the village.
Masvingo provincial deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu confirmed the incident.
"We are advising parents to talk to their children about staying away from danger. These things can be fatal," said Assistant Inspector Patinyu.
He added that no action would be taken against the two boys, with authorities taking into account their age and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Crocodiles are a protected species under Zimbabwean law and are known to pose serious danger to communities living near rivers and streams. Authorities have repeatedly urged residents, particularly children, to avoid water bodies where the reptiles may be present to prevent loss of life.
