BULAWAYO - Zanu‑PF Bulawayo Provincial Chairman Jabulani Sibanda has praised Zambia's "culture of purity", highlighting the country's historic role in supporting Zimbabwe's liberation struggle and other freedom movements across the continent. He said cross‑border relations among indigenous churches continue to strengthen peace, unity and development.

Sibanda made the remarks during the Council for Churches in Africa (CCA) 2026 Culture of Purity theme launch, where he emphasised the importance of safeguarding Africa's cultural heritage.

"It would be unfair to talk about the foundation and liberation of Zimbabwe without mentioning Zambia, considering its contributions towards our fight for independence from the colonial regime. During our quest for independence, Zambia helped various comrades from our military wings with basic necessities," Sibanda said.

He added that Zimbabwe and Zambia share a rich cultural heritage and "uniform cultural infrastructure", noting that the relationship extends beyond politics into religion, where communities fellowship together and promote morality and Ubuntu.

CCA Founder President, Arch‑Bishop Dr Rocky Moyo, urged churches across Africa to work closely with governments to promote sustainable development, national identity and the fight against immorality and cultural erosion.

"It is the duty of church leaders in Africa to promote a culture of purity among their congregants and communities. They should be agents of a just society where equity and equality are prioritised while submitting to their respective governments," Moyo said.

CCA Zambian Chapter President, Bishop Dr Brian Kalikiti, praised Zimbabwe's non‑discriminatory policies, saying they allow churches to enjoy freedom of worship and ease of doing business.

"As Zambian indigenous churches with branches and affiliations in Zimbabwe, we appreciate the non‑discriminatory policies under the guidance of the revolutionary party Zanu‑PF and its leadership. These freedoms promote peace, unity and ease of doing business," Kalikiti said.

The event highlighted the enduring ties between Zimbabwe and Zambia, built on shared history and mutual support during the liberation struggle. Zimbabwe has long acknowledged Zambia's role in hosting freedom fighters and supporting the broader fight against colonialism.
