Zimbabwe Warriors captain Marvellous Nakamba has completed a last-minute transfer to English Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, joining the club from Luton Town on deadline day.

The 32-year-old midfielder left Luton by mutual agreement, bringing an early end to his contract, which still had six months remaining. Nakamba initially joined the Hatters during the January transfer window of the 2022/23 season and quickly became an influential figure in the squad.

He played a key role in Luton's successful promotion to the English Premier League and was later rewarded with a three-year contract that was set to expire in June. However, both parties agreed to part ways to allow the Zimbabwe international to seek a new challenge.

Luton Town chief executive Gary Sweet paid tribute to Nakamba, praising both his impact on the pitch and his character off it. He said Nakamba had been a huge part of the club's success, describing him as a special presence who added real quality at a crucial time in their promotion push. Sweet also noted that Nakamba remained positive and professional despite enduring difficult periods with injury.

Sweet added that everyone at Luton Town was grateful for Nakamba's contribution during his three years at Kenilworth Road, stressing that he would always be welcome at the club and wishing him well in the next phase of his career.

While Sheffield Wednesday have not officially disclosed the terms of Nakamba's contract, reports in England indicate that the deal is likely to run for six months. The experienced midfielder is also being linked with a potential move to the Middle East next season, with several clubs reportedly already expressing interest.

Nakamba's move keeps him in competitive English football as he continues to play a central role for both club and country.
