A senior citizen from Bambanani Village in Mphoengs was dragged before the Plumtree Magistrates’ Court after assaulting his neighbour during a dispute over goats.
Raphel Tshuma was sentenced to six months in prison for assaulting Phathisan Dube with a knobkerrie. However, the magistrate suspended the entire sentence, sparing him from serving jail time.
Prosecutor Sheila Nyathi told the court that on 10 December last year, Tshuma confronted Dube on a footpath and accused him of chasing his goats away from a field. Dube argued that the goats had been destroying his crops.
The court heard that Tshuma further accused Dube of injuring his dog before striking him with a knobkerrie.
