Presidential Special Investment Advisor Paul Tungwarara has dismissed claims of a fallout with businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei, saying some individuals are fabricating an “imaginary conflict” for personal gain.

In a statement posted on social media, Tungwarara said attempts to drive a wedge between him and Tagwirei were nothing more than “wishful thinking”.

“Please take note that there are people going around trying to create an imaginary conflict between my mentor, Tagwirei, and myself. This supposed fight does not exist,” he said.

“Tagwirei has never done anything wrong to me. In fact, he has helped me to become who I am today. I hold nothing against my brother, and I cannot continue to allow these false rumours to spread.”

Tungwarara also clarified that Tagwirei had nothing to do with delays in the Presidential Empowerment Fund Programmes, saying the pause was a party decision meant to strengthen monitoring systems and identify beneficiaries who may have abused funds.

“I want the nation to know that I am not in competition with anyone, and certainly not with Tagwirei, whom I regard as my mentor,” he said.

He accused unnamed individuals of using “divide‑and‑rule tactics” to create tension for their own benefit.

“I urge these individuals to be honest and to ask for favours directly, instead of spreading falsehoods that I am fighting my brother. There are also those attacking Tagwirei in my name, thinking they can gain favours from me. I do not recognise these people, nor do I know them.”

Tungwarara said he stands by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call for unity.

“Our able leader, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, always preaches unity and kubatana. I stand by that call for unity,” he said.
