A woman from Bluffhill was sexually assaulted by suspected robbers who broke into a church residence in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Sources said the incident occurred around 2am when three assailants reportedly forced their way into the property where the victim lives with her husband, a church caretaker.
The couple was asleep in their bedroom when they were awakened by unusual noises coming from the Sunday school room.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the caretaker left the bedroom to investigate the disturbance, leaving his wife inside the house.
It was during this time that two masked men allegedly entered the bedroom and confronted the woman while demanding money.
When she told them there was no cash kept at the church premises, the intruders searched the house but failed to find anything of value.
One of the suspects then allegedly threatened the woman before assaulting her.
The attackers reportedly fled the scene after hearing approaching footsteps, quickly leaving the house and shutting the door behind them.
The caretaker is said to have briefly pursued one of the suspects, but the man chased him away, forcing him to seek assistance from nearby residents.
The incident has left the Bluffhill community shaken, with residents calling for improved security measures.
"We are living in fear, and there is a pressing need for organised security in our community," said one resident.
"The church premises are somewhat isolated, which contributed to the delayed response."
Police sources said the matter is being investigated at Mabelreign Police Station.
National police spokesperson Paul Nyathi was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
