Defender Andrew Mbeba has finally signed a new contract with Highlanders FC after weeks of negotiations that reportedly included a request for a house as part of his contract package.
Mbeba, popularly known as "Kabila", has agreed to a deal that will keep him at the Bulawayo giants until December 2028.
The Warriors defender, who was recently named in the senior national team squad for an upcoming four-nations tournament in Botswana, could be part of the Highlanders squad that travels to Harare to face Dynamos FC in their second Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match of the season.
Highlanders confirmed the development on Thursday evening.
"The club is delighted to confirm that defender Andrew Mbeba has officially committed his future to the club, signing a contract renewal that will keep him at the club until December 2028," the club said in a statement.
Mbeba missed Highlanders' opening league match on Sunday, where they played to a 1–1 draw with city rivals Bulawayo Chiefs FC at Barbourfields Stadium.
Speaking after the match, Highlanders coach Benjani Mawaruwari said negotiations with the defender were progressing well and indicated that Mbeba was close to regaining full fitness.
