The outgoing commander of 1 Infantry Brigade, Cephas Gurira, has been promoted and deployed to the Zimbabwe National Army Headquarters following his tenure at the Bulawayo-based formation.

Maj-Gen Gurira officially handed over command of 1 Infantry Brigade to incoming commander Brigadier General Ernest Shamu on Monday during a ceremony attended by Lieutenant General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi, senior military officers, government officials, and other stakeholders.

In his farewell remarks, Maj-Gen Gurira described it as a great honour to have led the brigade, the army's senior formation responsible for operations across the Matabeleland region.

He said his time at the brigade had been both productive and fulfilling, highlighting the strong bonds forged with officers, soldiers, government officials, and provincial leadership in the region.

Maj-Gen Gurira commended the brigade for its commitment, teamwork, and discipline, which he said contributed to the successful execution of operations, training programmes, and other assignments from Army headquarters.

He expressed confidence that Brigadier General Shamu would continue to advance the brigade's progress and urged officers and soldiers to maintain the positive trajectory while upholding the formation's proud history and achievements.
