President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Thursday toured the Mabvuku Interchange construction site in Harare, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the major infrastructure project.

The Head of State and Government was accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, including Minister Felix Mhona, Deputy Minister Joshua Sacco, Permanent Secretary Joy Makumbe, and representatives from the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA).

President Mnangagwa said he was impressed by the progress achieved so far, noting that the works reflect government's commitment to modernising the country's road infrastructure.

"The progress on site is impressive, both in terms of pace and quality," he said during the tour.

The Mabvuku Interchange is being developed alongside the Msasa Interchange as part of a broader strategy to transform Harare's eastern transport corridor. The dual projects are expected to significantly improve traffic flow along one of the capital's busiest routes.

Upon completion, the interchange is projected to reduce travel times, ease congestion and enhance the movement of goods, particularly along the strategic Beira Corridor, which links Zimbabwe to the Mozambican port of Beira.

Officials said the improved connectivity will play a key role in boosting economic activity and facilitating trade, in line with the country's vision of attaining upper middle‑income status by 2030.

The project forms part of government's wider infrastructure development drive, which has prioritised road rehabilitation and expansion as a catalyst for economic growth and regional integration. Authorities say continued investment in transport infrastructure is critical to unlocking productivity, reducing logistical costs and improving the ease of doing business across Zimbabwe.
