Truck driver dies after vehicle plunges into river

A 52-year-old truck driver has died after the heavy-duty vehicle he was driving plunged into a river and became submerged along the Masvingo–Mbalabala Road in Zvishavane.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the accident, which occurred on 10 April 2026 at around 4pm at the Ngezi River Bridge.
It is alleged that Silas Nyengetera, of Tarusenga Village under Chief Mazungunye in Bikita, was driving a Shacman truck towing two trailers when he lost control of the vehicle, which then veered off the road and plunged into the river.
Police said the truck became fully submerged in water following the crash, leading to the driver's death.
Recovery and investigation efforts were carried out at the scene as authorities worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.
