Sakupwanya, Wadyajena partner to sponsor Norton Big Boys

Mabvuku legislator Scott Sakupwanya and former Gokwe-Nembudziya MP Mayor Wadyajena have partnered to sponsor Division Two side Norton Big Boys Football Club, in an initiative aimed at promoting community sport and tackling drug and substance abuse.

The club features a mix of experienced former Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League and national team players, including Evans Gwekwerere, Oscar Machapa, Rodrick Mutumwa, Luckson Kaisa, Tafadzwa Rusike and Takesure Chinyama.

The sponsorship is being positioned as part of a broader social intervention using football as a platform to steer young people away from drug abuse, which has increasingly affected communities and, in some cases, former professional athletes after retirement.

Through active involvement in grassroots football and mentorship, the initiative seeks to promote discipline, healthier lifestyles and positive role models for emerging players in Norton and surrounding areas.

Supporters of the project say the presence of well-known former stars is expected to boost the club’s profile while strengthening its community outreach impact at a time when substance abuse remains a growing national concern.
