Highlanders head coach Benjani Mwaruwari has openly acknowledged his disappointment with the club's inconsistent performances, admitting that results have fallen short of expectations since his appointment.
Speaking after Highlanders' 1–1 draw against Herentals FC at Rufaro Stadium, Mwaruwari said he had anticipated a stronger start to his tenure but conceded that the team has struggled to turn performances into wins.
Under Mwaruwari, Highlanders have played 10 Premier Soccer League matches, collecting 11 points out of a possible 30, leaving them in 11th position on the log.
"I was looking forward to coming in and doing well, but so far, the results haven't come my way," he said. "As a coach, if the results are not coming, it's disappointing. Hopefully one day, sooner, we will get those results."
Despite their low points tally, Highlanders have only suffered one defeat this season, highlighting a pattern of draws that has slowed their climb up the table.
The Bulawayo giants, commonly known as Bosso, have faced growing scrutiny from supporters who expected an immediate turnaround under the former Manchester City forward.
Mwaruwari was appointed in January with backing linked to club benefactor Wicknell Chivayo, a move that reportedly divided opinion among fans and sections of the club hierarchy.
Tensions around the club have also been heightened by Mwaruwari's previous remarks suggesting he may be facing internal resistance, though he has not publicly provided further detail.
The coach's comments reflect broader concerns about stability and cohesion at Highlanders FC, one of Zimbabwe's most followed football institutions.
While the team's defensive resilience has helped limit losses, their inability to secure victories has left them lagging behind early title contenders in the Premier Soccer League race.
For Mwaruwari, the immediate challenge is clear: transform competitive performances into results before pressure from supporters and stakeholders intensifies further.
With the season still in its early stages, Highlanders remain within reach of the top half of the table - but improvement in finishing and consistency will be critical if they are to revive their campaign.
