Zimbabwe's Chief Justice Luke Malaba is presiding over a special sitting of the Constitutional Court as he marks the conclusion of a judicial career spanning more than four decades.
The ceremony, attended by government officials, serving and retired judges, and members of the legal fraternity, comes ahead of his retirement at midnight on Thursday in line with constitutional provisions on mandatory retirement age.
Chief Justice Malaba has served in the judiciary since 1984, when he began his career as a prosecutor before rising through the ranks to become one of Zimbabwe's most senior judicial figures. Since 2017, he has also chaired the Judicial Service Commission, playing a central role in the administration of the country's courts.
His retirement marks the end of a long tenure widely regarded as influential in shaping Zimbabwe's legal and constitutional jurisprudence, with the Constitutional Court sitting symbolically to honour his service to the justice system.
