A coordinated police operation in Gweru has resulted in the arrest of three suspects linked to a series of vehicle thefts and unlawful entry cases, with property valued at more than US$43 000 recovered.

The suspects - Tarisai Danha, Benard Phiri and Tinashe Gonde - are accused of operating a criminal syndicate responsible for multiple theft incidents recorded between March and May this year in and around Gweru.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the group allegedly stole motor vehicles, mainly Honda Fit cars, which were then used to transport stolen goods from residential and commercial properties.

Investigators say the suspects would abandon the vehicles after committing the offences, making it difficult to immediately trace them.

The police operation led to the recovery of eight Honda Fit vehicles, along with a wide range of stolen property, including gas tanks, refrigerators, television sets, solar panels, vehicle batteries and assorted groceries.

Authorities estimate that the total value of stolen goods linked to the syndicate exceeds US$48 000, with recovered items valued at more than US$43 000. Several victims have already positively identified their property.

The suspects have since appeared before the courts and were convicted on four counts of unlawful entry and theft. They are expected to face additional charges as investigations continue into related cases.

Police described the operation as a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle organised criminal networks operating in the Midlands Province and to recover stolen property for affected residents and businesses.

Investigations remain ongoing as law enforcement authorities continue to trace possible accomplices and establish the full extent of the syndicate's activities.
