2 die in Plumtree Road accident

Two people were killed and another seriously injured following a head-on collision involving a private vehicle and a truck along Plumtree Road near Mbokodo Butchery on Friday evening.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the fatal crash, which left both vehicles extensively damaged.
Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Mr Mhlangano Moyo confirmed the accident and said firefighters responded within minutes of being alerted.
"The fire brigade received a report of a head-on collision accident involving a private motor vehicle and a one-and-a-half-tonne truck along Plumtree Road near Mbokodo, and emergency personnel found both vehicles extensively damaged," he said.
According to Mr Moyo, two occupants of the private vehicle were trapped inside the wreckage due to the severe impact of the collision.
"Two persons in the private motor vehicle were found trapped inside the wreckage due to severe deformation of the vehicle structure. They were confirmed dead and the case was handed over to the Zimbabwe Republic Police," he said.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel worked to secure the scene and assist victims following the crash.
One passenger who sustained serious injuries was rescued and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities had not yet released the identities of the deceased by the time of publication, pending notification of next of kin.
The circumstances that led to the collision were still under investigation.
The latest tragedy adds to growing concerns over road safety as Zimbabwe continues to record fatal traffic accidents on major highways.
Police are expected to conduct further investigations to establish the exact cause of the crash.
