A Gutu South businessman has accused the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) of failing to act on a malicious damage to property case involving David Mnangagwa, a nephew of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, nearly six months after the matter was reported.
According to a police report filed under reference CR163/01/26 at Gutu Police Station, David Mnangagwa is alleged to have used a tractor to demolish a Blair toilet, a shop veranda, a perimeter fence and part of Chimombe Shop at Murairwa Business Centre following an altercation on Christmas Eve in 2025.
Sources familiar with the matter claim the investigation has stalled because police are reluctant to pursue the case due to Mnangagwa's family ties. David Mnangagwa is understood to reside at President Mnangagwa's farm in Bikita, about seven kilometres from Murairwa Business Centre.
The owner of the affected premises, Talent Mandivenga, confirmed the incident and said he had not received any update from police since reporting the matter.
"I have not heard anything from the police since the incident happened six months ago. David Mnangagwa has not made any reparations and my business is collapsing because of the damage," Mandivenga said.
According to the report, the incident followed an altercation between David Mnangagwa and a man identified only as Thulani at a bar located about seven kilometres from Roy along the Roy-Gutu Road.
It is alleged that the two exchanged blows before Thulani struck Mnangagwa with a switch and fled the scene. Thulani is reportedly now living in South Africa.
Witnesses allege that after the confrontation, Mnangagwa threatened to demolish the premises before climbing into his tractor. He allegedly drove into the perimeter fence, toilet, shop veranda and part of the bar before leaving the scene with three unidentified men.
A bar attendant who was reportedly on duty that evening, Ester Musara, confirmed that an incident occurred but said she no longer lives at Murairwa Business Centre.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said he was looking into the matter when contacted for comment.
Presidential spokesperson George Charamba declined to comment on the substance of the allegations, saying it was inappropriate for him to respond to claims that had not been confirmed by the police.
"Are you making allegations or what? Are you getting this from the Police? Get the complainant and the Officer Commanding to phone me. I can't take it from a journalist," Charamba said.
"You are making a very serious allegation against a citizen when you are not working for the Police and you want me to validate that allegation by giving you a comment.
"Please tell the Officer Commanding because he is the one with the capacity and machinery to tell me about that matter, not yourself. You are only a journalist."
The allegations have not been tested in court, and no charges have been announced against David Mnangagwa in connection with the reported incident.
