A bus conductor operating on the Harare-Makaha route has been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of two passengers in an incident captured on video that has since gone viral on social media.

The incident reportedly occurred on June 25, 2026, at Musami Cross in Domborembudzi, Mashonaland East Province.

According to sources close to the investigation, the conductor later handed himself over to the police and is now assisting detectives with their inquiries.

Investigators have also dismissed social media claims that the victims were secondary school learners, saying preliminary findings indicate that the two complainants are artisanal miners based in the Makaha area of Mudzi District.

Police believe the altercation began after the passengers demanded a refund upon discovering there were no vacant seats on the bus despite having boarded.

Zimbabwe Republic Police national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

"Reference is made to the video circulating on social media in which members of the Boltcutter Bus crew are seen violently assaulting passengers at Musami Cross, Domborembudzi," Nyathi said.

"The Zimbabwe Republic Police has taken note of the incident, and investigations are currently underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the matter and identify all persons involved."

He assured the public that the police would act decisively against those found responsible.

"The public is assured that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law.

"The Zimbabwe Republic Police strongly condemns all forms of violence, disorderly conduct and acts that endanger human life and public safety. Anyone found responsible for the assault will be dealt with without fear or favour," Nyathi said.

Meanwhile, Boltcutter Bus Company has condemned the alleged assault by members of its crew and said it is cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities as investigations continue.

Police have indicated that investigations are ongoing and that further arrests could be made should additional suspects be identified.
