The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has suspended its secretary-general, Tirivanhu Marimo, over allegations of misconduct.

In a statement issued on Friday, ZCTU president Florence Taruvinga announced that Marimo had been relieved of all official duties pending further processes.

"ZCTU would like to notify all affiliates, stakeholders and cooperating partners of the suspension of the ZCTU secretary-general Tirivanhu Marimo over acts of misconduct. Marimo is suspended and relieved of all official duties on behalf of ZCTU," the statement read.

The labour federation also announced that Kudakwashe Munengiwa had been appointed acting secretary-general with immediate effect until further notice.

The ZCTU did not disclose the nature of the alleged misconduct or indicate how long the suspension would remain in force.

Marimo was elected secretary-general of Zimbabwe's largest labour federation in 2025, succeeding longtime union leader Japhet Moyo.

No further details regarding the disciplinary process were immediately available.
