A 27-year-old bartender has been arrested after allegedly fatally stabbing a patron following a dispute over cash change at a tuck-shop in Kwekwe, Midlands Province.
The incident occurred on Monday at around 6pm at AM Trading Tuck-shops in Mbizo.
Police identified the suspect as Simbarashe Sithole (27), who is now in custody in connection with the death of Marshal Muyuni.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Muyuni had been drinking at the premises when an argument broke out between him and Sithole over change.
The disagreement allegedly escalated after Muyuni slapped the bartender before leaving the bar.
"It is alleged that the deceased became angry during the dispute and slapped the bartender before walking away," a source said.
The source alleged that Sithole then armed himself with a knife and pursued Muyuni outside the premises.
"He allegedly caught up with him a short distance from the tuck-shops and stabbed him. Muyuni collapsed and sustained severe injuries," the source added.
Members of the public rushed the injured man to Kwekwe General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The matter was reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, leading to Sithole's arrest.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and the suspect's arrest.
"We urge members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully and refrain from resorting to violence, as conflicts can easily result in the unnecessary loss of life," said Inspector Mahoko.
Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
