Mnangagwa confers hero status on Brigadier-General Nyamuronda

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has conferred national hero status on the late Brigadier-General (Retired) Albert Jack Nyamuronda in recognition of his contribution to Zimbabwe's liberation struggle and the defence of the country.
The decision was communicated to the Nyamuronda family at their home in Zengeza 3 Extension, Chitungwiza, on Thursday night by ZANU PF Politburo member Cde Mike Madiro.
"President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and First Secretary of ZANU PF, Dr ED Mnangagwa, has conferred national hero status on the late Cde Brigadier-General (Retired) Albert Nyamuronda, who passed away on 11 August 2026," Madiro said.
Brig-Gen (Retd) Nyamuronda will be buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, with the burial date expected to be announced by the authorities.
Madiro said President Mnangagwa had directed that all necessary arrangements be made for the burial and that the benefits due to the late national hero's family be processed.
Nyamuronda, who hailed from Manicaland, died at Chitungwiza General Hospital on Tuesday last week at the age of 67.
The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) will hold a funeral parade in his honour at Charles Gumbo Barracks tomorrow.
ZNA public relations director Colonel Hlengiwe Dube confirmed that the parade would begin at 2pm, with Commander Zimbabwe National Army Lieutenant-General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi serving as chief mourner.
Nyamuronda was born in Makoni North district in Manicaland Province, under Chief Chikore.
He is survived by his wife and four children.
Mourners are gathered at House Number 14565, Zengeza 3 Extension, Chitungwiza, as preparations for his burial continue.
