CSCJF Zimbabwe mourns Tanzania’s First Gentleman Hafidh Ameir Hassan

The Civic Society and Churches Joint Forum (CSCJF Zimbabwe and Beyond) has expressed deep sorrow following the death of Tanzania’s First Gentleman, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.
Mr Hassan, the husband of Tanzanian President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, died on Monday at about 8am at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar, where he had been receiving treatment for a heart condition.
In a condolence statement, CSCJF National Coordinator Dr Abigale Mupambi extended sympathies to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania. “On behalf of CSCJF Zimbabwe and Beyond, the Board, Management, Staff and all our members, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Her Excellency President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan during this time of profound loss,” she said.
“We stand in solidarity with the Government and people of Tanzania. Hafidh Ameir Hassan lived a life of quiet service and dignity. As the country’s first First Gentleman, he supported the presidency with humility and grace. We pray that the Almighty grants President Samia, the family and the nation strength and comfort. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Tanzania’s Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi announced Mr Hassan’s death and conveyed official condolences, while funeral arrangements were underway in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar.
Hassan, an agriculturalist by profession, married President Samia in 1978, and the couple had four children. He maintained a low public profile after President Samia assumed office in 2021, becoming Tanzania’s first First Gentleman.
CSCJF Zimbabwe and Beyond said it joins the SADC region and the wider African continent in mourning with Tanzania following Mr Hassan’s passing — a moment that reinforces regional solidarity and shared values across East African leadership and SADC diplomatic relations.
