Minister of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment, Savior Kasukuwere on Friday donated 600 bags of cement to Guta Ramwari Zvimiso church.
The donation will speed up the completion of the Guta Ramwari complex in Mpopoma.
In an interview with Sunday News, a member of Guta Ramwari Zvimiso and Provincial Head for the Ministry of Youth Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment, Mr Ophas Dube, said this was the first donation that the church had received.
He said church members were grateful and the donation would go a long way towards the completion of the complex that would benefit church members and the community.
"We would like to thank the minister for the delivery that has come and the donation is welcomed by the church. This is the first donation that the church has received and this shows his support for indigenous churches that are growing within the region," he said.
He said the complex will soon be completed and it will benefit church members and the community at large, as there are plans to establish various initiatives including building a church, kick-starting a brick moulding project and building a community centre, a move that is set to empower the youth.
"We have plans of building a community centre that will offer various technical skills such as carpentry, metal work, building and this will encourage the youths to take advantage of these projects so that they can empower themselves.
"There are plans to build a clinic and a nursery school, and there are chicken projects that the youth are carrying out," he said.
Mr Dube said he hoped the youths would take advantage of the indigenisation and economic empowerment initiatives and loans such as Kurera/Ukondla fund.
He also added that vocational centres are available that seek to educate the youth on the empowerment programmes.
Mr Isaac Ndlovu, a church member, said they welcomed the donation by Hon Kasukuwere and church members extended their gratitude to the Bulawayo City Council that gave them space for spearheading the opening of the complex.
"We are also extending our appreciation to Bulawayo City Council as they saw the need to provide us with the land to facilitate the programmes that we have put on paper. We are hoping to identify talent within the church and the community at large," he said.
Mr Ndlovu said there should be continuous support of indigenous churches that should come up with such initiatives that will help support the youth.
"I also urge the youth to take advantage of the Economic Empowerment programmes that are available as there are vocational centres that enlighten youths on empowerment programmes," he said.
