The Minister of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Ignatius Chombo has told people illegally occupying any piece of land to demolish their buildings and leave forthwith or government will demolish them.

The call come in the wake of thousands of people country wide who wantonly occupied any piece of land at their disposal in the run up to the election.

A lot of illegal structures are sprouted across the country some under power lines, some in grazing lands, some in swampy areas and some even along roadsides.

This land occupation has happened in the eyes of government leaving one wondering why government was allowing this to happen and why the call now.

Some of the illegal occupants have come up with very expensive structures and looked poised to remain there permanently.

Some lost huge sums of money "buying" land from unscrupulous land dealers and "kraalheads" who purported to have been from government.

The no nonsense Minister, Chombo has given a strong warning for people to leave as government will not go back on the order.

"In the meantime, the ministry is directing that all construction work on illegally-allocated stands be stopped forthwith," Minister Chombo said.

"Those who will choose to continue will not only be breaching the laws of the land, but risk losing their resources as some of their structures will have to be demolished."

Memories of Operation Murambatswina are still fresh in the people's minds and everyone surely understands well what the warning means and panic is being felt on the ground already.

Mass exodus of people from the affected areas is expected soon though fears remain of heavy clashes between the police and the people as some of these people were settled by politicians to use them as voters in the just ended elections.
