A RUSAPE man Griffin Kavhura who last year bludgeoned his pregnant wifeBeauty Majazi after she pleaded with him to undergo HIV tests was last Wednesday slapped with a 25-year jail term after being convicted for murder by High Court judge Justice Charles Hungwe last week.
State counsel Jane-Rose Matsikidze told the court that on November 30, the couple and their minor child left home to seek spiritual cleansing from a renowned prophet at a nearby village.
On their way back , they had a heated argument after Majazi proposed that they both undergo HIV tests to ascertain their health status since she was now expecting her second child.
In a fit of rage, Kavhura, who had been seen by other villagers dragging his wife earlier, picked a log and brutally assaulted her.
After realising that his wife had lost consciousness, Kavhara fled the scene.
The heavily-injured and pregnant Majazi who could not do anything to help herself spent the entire night and her minor daughter in the bush.
She was discovered in the morning of December 1 by a fellow villager Andrew Chataika who immediately informed other villagers before reporting the matter to police.
Police recovered a blood stained log at the site and later took Majazi to Matsika Clinic.
She was later transferred Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare where she succumbed to the injuries on December 1. Kavhura was arrested three days later while hiding at a nearby village.
