Former Warriors skipper Method Mwanjali lost $325 to two men who allegedly misrepresented to him that they were employees of the Vehicle Inspection Department before issuing him with a fake driver's licence. The two men - Kunei Sengu (51) and George Musarurwa (42) - were charged with fraud when they appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tafadzwa Muvhami on Thursday last week.

They pleaded not guilty to the charge. Mr Muvhami defered the matter to December 1 for trial. Allegations are that sometime in October this year Mwanjali phoned Sengu and told him that he had been referred to him by his father-in-law, Mr Jeffrey Khumalo.

The court heard that Sengu told Mwanjali that he and Musarurwa were VID employees stationed at Chitungwiza Depot. Sengu, it is alleged, told Mwanjali that he was going to assist Khumalo to acquire a driver's licence without to much hassle

The court heard that Sengu told Mwanjali to send him $25 through his EcoCash account to book a driving test. The following day, it is alleged, Sengu called Mwanjali and asked for another $300 and also asked to meet him at Selous Hotel in Harare's Avenues.

It is the State's case that Mwanjali met Sengu and Musarurwa and made a payment of $300 to them through EcoCash while the trio had charged him $360 for the whole process. After three days, the court heard that Mwanjali was contacted by Sengu who asked to meet him at the same hotel.

It is alleged that Mwanjali proceeded to the hotel where he met Sengu and Musarurwa who then handed over to him a driver's licence disc in the name of Jeffrey Khumalo. The State proved that Mwanjali made inquiries with the Central Vehicle Registry Licences Department and was informed that the licence was fake and that its number belonged to another person and Khumalo was not registered as a holder of a driver's licence.

Mwanjali made a report to the police leading to the arrest of the pair.
