VANCOUVER - The recent shock promotion of Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri into the MDC-T presidium as vice presidents, was allegedly not the party leader, Morgan Tsvangirai's will but the plotting of outside intelligence forces, a senior government official has claimed.

The stunning disclosure, was revealed to Spotlight Zimbabwe, this week by a high ranking security officer, working close to national security minister, Kembo Mohadi's office, who was on a two week visit to Canada on undisclosed government business.

Tsvangirai, who is recovering from cancer treatment, last month announced the appointment of the two senior party members and legislators at his Highlands residence in the capital, much to the initial resistance of his deputy, Thokozani Khupe, and other top officials who accused the former prime minister of violating the party Constitution.

At the time Tsvangirai in a statement said he had been given a directive by the National Council to make the promotions.

"In line with the directive given to me by the National Council, I have now appointed Hon. Nelson Chamisa and Hon Elias Mudzuri as Vice Presidents of the party. The two will join Hon. Thokozani Khupe in assisting me in the execution of my responsibilities and preparing the party for the next election," Tsvangirai said.

However news of the involvement of foreign intelligence services inside the MDC-T, will likely open a can of worms and cause anxiety among the top leadership who hitherto might have been in the dark on the alleged behind the scenes politics.

"This is not new nor is it news. It happens everywhere in the world, but the sad thing is that the opposition back home is always played against each other," said the officer. "We do have intelligence that Chamisa and Mudzuri, have received massive funding from these secret service organisations, who obviously are pushing to have their Manchurian candidates in Zimbabwe."

Our informer also boasted that the country's own dreaded spy agency, the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), was "on top of the game" and have the opposition under control.

"Our intelligence is very good and patriotic. I can assure you that a change in government means nothing, the moment whoever comes to power attempts to sell out our national ethos and ideology, they will be dealt with. As a journalist you should be familiar with the critical importance of national security agencies, even here in Canada they do not joke. The same goes for other nations, including the U.S."

The MDC-T now has three vice presidents, including Khupe, making Tsvangirai's succession to become a hotly contested affair.

As first reported by this publication on 20 May 2016, the country's biggest opposition outfit now has serious buried factions, which almost imploded in 2013 but the centre is only holding after the faction leaders, all but realised that Tsvangirai still remains the party's ticket to State House in 2018, due to his grassroots support.

The four distinctive factions, which are inside the MDC-T operating under cosmetic allegiance according to our information, are allegedly led by the two former organising secretaries of the party Mudzuri and Chamisa. The other faction is led by Khupe and Tsvangirai has his own, which the other three are temporarily rallying behind.

Mudzuri and Chamisa are said to have recently joined forces to increase their formidability, in eventually working a succession plan to take over the MDC-T at the right time, although Tsvangirai himself is said to be aware of the machinations, and keeping the duo at bay.

"Munoziveiko? (You reporters are clueless)," our source said. "Mudzuri was approached as far back as 2003, when he was suspended as mayor of Harare as a potential future leader of the MDC-T. Chamisa on the other hand was initiated and approached around 2007, after that airport beating to bring youth to the leadership, while preparing him for what we see at play now."

Other opposition insiders said , the alleged funding war chest believed to be of significant amounts, which Chamisa and Mudzuri have reportedly received, was used as blackmail to arm-twist Tsvangirai, who had dried out finances, to make the appointments. Some say he has made the clever move, so as to avoid a leadership challenge for the 2018 Presidential elections.
