A 65-year-old man from Plumtree has been sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing a stray bull and selling it to a local butchery.
Dumizweni Dube appeared before Magistrate Joshua Nembaware, who convicted him on stock theft charges.
The court heard that in April 2023, a stray bull reportedly joined Dube's herd of cattle. Instead of reporting the animal, Dube sold it to a nearby butchery.
The crime was uncovered when police officers on patrol received a tip-off and proceeded to investigate. Upon questioning, Dube admitted to the offence without hesitation.
He was immediately arrested and charged.
