HIGHLANDERS Football Club has donated groceries to a Bulawayo family that lost a granny and her granddaughter in a freak accident on Friday.

Sineta Agnes Ncube (71) and her 13-year-old granddaughter, Loretta Ncube were struck by a trailer that disengaged from a South Africa-registered Toyota Quantum just after crossing Nketa Drive on their way home from Mpopoma high-density suburb.

The trailer dis-membered them, sending some body parts flying onto the tarmac. Gogo Ncube was decapitated.

Highlanders technical advisor Cosmas Zulu and welfare director Vezigama Dlodlo visited the bereaved family in Mabutweni on Sunday where they donated the groceries.

The hamper comprised Mazoe orange crush, maize-meal, cooking oil, coffee creamers, tea leaves, bread, peanut butter, jam, sugar, salt, soap and toilet paper.

"The money we used to buy all this food came from the technical staff and the players because we're part of the Bulawayo family. This is where our supporters come from and we feel that the family is part of the Highlanders family and we need to help," said Zulu.

"We, the technical staff, board, executive and the whole Highlanders family are touched, we can also feel the pain the family is going through."

Phillip Ndlovu, uncle to the deceased said the family was still in shock and could not rule out black magic in the pair's deaths.

"Into yakhona mina ingethusile, ayingiphathanga kuhle (I find this incident scary, it's unsettling). When I heard of my nieces' deaths it felt like a dream. I'm very hurt, the death of two people at the same time, with one corpse headless is a hard blow," said Ndlovu.

Loretta was a Form One pupil at Njube High School.
