Coltart: The Selectors Saga
18 Jan 2013 at 04:47hrs | Views
He is a vivid sporting enthusiast,a father of children who love sport and above all a Minister of sport. The Coltart appointed Sports and Recreation Commission has already directed all sporting bodies to appoint a person who had played at the national level as their Selectors. This means that those who are occupying such positions by virtue of having been involved in the sport for long will be stripped off their post.
The million dollar question now is if Senator Coltart did this out of grace or had a hidden agenda?
Having taken some time taking a look at Coltart's CV, I realised what an honourable man Sen Coltart was, having held many reputable post. He accepted them because of his love for all Zimbabweans. However his recent proposal regarding national selectors has sparked debate from all corners of Zimbabwe.
The loudest echo is coming from ZC (Zim Cricket) mainly ZC National selector Givemore Makoni as he feels was the main target. Why he would be a target of a national sporting regulation? Many cricket fans say efforts to apply black empowerment and indiginisation at ZC might be disastrous. The Peter Chingoka led cricket board has overseen the hard times faced by Zimbabwe cricket teams in the global arena.
I managed to ask my fellow schoolmates on their views most of whom concurred with Sen Coltart. It is not a matter of colour or tribe, its all about national pride and dignity.
