Bulawayo and parts of the Matabeleland provinces have received their first rains of the 2025 summer season over the weekend, with the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) forecasting additional isolated showers during the week.
The city experienced light rainfall on Sunday night, providing relief from the heat and resulting in chilly morning temperatures.
According to the MSD, partly cloudy and warm conditions with isolated showers are expected across western and northern Zimbabwe. The agency has also issued warnings about potential thunderstorms, urging residents to exercise caution.
"Secure loose objects outdoors, such as rooftops and garden furniture, to prevent them from being blown away and causing injury. Stay clear of damaged buildings, trees, and downed power lines," the MSD advised.
Residents in Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Masvingo, and the southern parts of Midlands and Manicaland provinces were advised to keep warm, as cloudy, windy, and cool weather is expected-a shift from the previously sunny conditions.
However, temperatures are expected to rise from Thursday, with clear skies and mild mornings followed by mostly sunny and hot afternoons in Matabeleland South, Bulawayo, and Masvingo provinces.
In the northern regions, including Harare Metropolitan and the Mashonaland provinces, partly cloudy conditions are anticipated from tomorrow.
The MSD reminded residents: "When lightning flashes, even if the sky above appears clear, move indoors immediately and stay hydrated by drinking sufficient amounts of water."
