Mohadi calls for shift from political contest to development-focused dialogue

VICE President Dr Kembo Mohadi has called for a shift away from perpetual political contestation towards development-oriented dialogue, saying national discourse must increasingly focus on delivering tangible results for citizens rather than what he described as "unprogressive noise" on social media.
He made the remarks at the launch of two books authored by political commentator Lungani Zwangobani titled Why Zanu-PF Must Succeed: Golden Jubilee Reflections and A Daring in November, where he was guest of honour.
VP Mohadi said politics should not be reduced to competition alone, but must also serve as a platform for mobilising ideas and consolidating national progress.
"Distinguished guests, the book ‘Why Zanu-PF Must Succeed' speaks boldly and directly to this imperative," he said.
"As we approach the Golden Jubilee of our independence, it is important to reflect on the role of Zanu-PF, not merely as a political party, but as a liberation movement that carries not only the historic mandate of safeguarding the sovereignty of Zimbabwe, but is the sole entity capable of advancing a dignified and prosperous nation."
He said Zimbabwe's independence was hard-won and must be safeguarded and translated into meaningful economic and social development.
"Independence was not paid for and had to be defended and guarded jealously," he said.
VP Mohadi said the ruling party carries a responsibility that extends beyond electoral cycles, including ensuring that sovereignty translates into economic independence, social justice and national development.
He said the writings of Zwangobani reflect the ongoing transformation of Zanu-PF from a liberation movement into a development-oriented political institution aligned with Vision 2030.
According to VP Mohadi, the Second Republic has prioritised infrastructure development, industrialisation, innovation and inclusive economic growth under President Emmerson Mnangagwa's leadership.
"This transition is strategic and must be understood, embraced and supported by all members of the ruling party and the nation at large," he said.
He also emphasised that national development is a shared responsibility, urging citizens to take active roles in shaping their communities and contributing to national progress.
"There is no substitute for individual responsibility within a collective national vision," he said.
VP Mohadi encouraged broader engagement in ideas and called for a national conversation anchored on progress, unity and development.
"Let us deepen our engagement in ideas. Let us build conscious citizens, and let us ensure that our discourse, as a nation, is anchored in progress," he said.
The event was attended by senior government and ruling party officials, including Minister of State for Harare Provincial Affairs Charles Tawengwa, Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities Professor Paul Mavima, Zanu-PF Secretary for Youth Affairs Tino Machakaire, and other senior officials.
