Zimbabwe crush Bangladesh to continue winning streak

Zimbabwe's senior men's cricket team made an impressive start to the three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series after defeating Bangladesh by 32 runs at Queens Sports Club on Wednesday to take a 1-0 lead.

The Chevrons produced a disciplined all-round performance, posting a competitive total before their pace attack dismantled the visitors' batting line-up to secure a comfortable victory.

After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, Zimbabwe posted 170 for 6 from their allotted 20 overs, setting Bangladesh a target of 171 for victory.

Opening batter Brian Bennett led the scoring with an entertaining 44 off 30 deliveries, providing Zimbabwe with a solid platform at the top of the order. Ryan Burl chipped in with a valuable 30 runs, helping the hosts maintain the momentum through the middle overs.

Zimbabwe lost six wickets during their innings, with Tashinga Musekiwa the only batter failing to get off the mark.

Chasing 171, Bangladesh never gained control of the run chase as Zimbabwe's bowlers applied relentless pressure from the outset.

The visitors were bowled out for 138 in 19 overs, falling 32 runs short of the target after struggling to build meaningful partnerships. Six Bangladesh batters failed to reach double figures as Zimbabwe's seamers dominated throughout the innings.

Fast bowlers Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava starred with the ball, sharing eight wickets between them to rip through Bangladesh's batting order.

Muzarabani returned outstanding figures of 4 for 17, equalling his career-best T20 International bowling performance, which he previously achieved against Australia during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Ngarava was equally impressive, claiming four wickets in a match-winning spell that earned him the Player of the Match award.

The victory continues Zimbabwe's recent success against Bangladesh, following wins in both the Test and One-Day International (ODI) series earlier this month.

The two sides will return to Queens Sports Club on Friday for the second T20 International, with the Chevrons needing just one more victory to clinch the series.

The third and final match will also be played in Bulawayo on Sunday, where Zimbabwe will be looking to complete another successful series against the touring Bangladesh side and continue their strong run of form on home soil.
