Grace Mugabe, Zimbabwe's First Lady is said to be vying for the powerful women's league chairperson post in her Zanu-PF party, a local daily newspaper reported. The post is currently held by Women's Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri whom unofficial reports suggest she supports the first Lady. Muchinguri is expected to get a top position in the party's decision making board, the Politburo.

The 49 year old's move was welcomed by scores of people on social networks with some saying her move was long overdue. Some said its not surprising as wives of politicians have major positions in Zanu-PF provincial structures. This includes the Mutsvangwas, Mnangagwas, Porusingazis and the Shamuyarira family who are heavily involved in politics.

Zanu-PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo could not confirm the developments saying the reports might be just rumours. Reports say women from all over Zimbabwe were bused to the flourishing Gushungo Estate for Grace's 49th birthday where they were expected to anoint her to take over as there boss.

The first Lady is a businesswoman in her own right and a philanthropist involved in dairy farming and recently built a state of the art children's home at her Mazowe farm. She is also the patron of the Danhiko Games for the disabled. Critics view her as a greedy person as she is known for her lavish lifestyle. Analyst say Grace is President Mugabe's pillar of strength and influence most of his decisions in a bid to protect the family's business interest.

Globally, Hillary Clinton (Bill Clinton's wife) and Nkosazana Zuma,(ex wife of Jacob Zuma are heavily involved in global politics with Mrs Zuma expected to contest for ANC vice president post and Hillary expected to bid for Presidency in the next US elections.
