ZANU-PF Government defying all odds in the face of its adversaries

12 Aug 2015 at 13:19hrs | Views

The ZANU-PF Government should not be wrongly judged as it has been made a sacrificial lamb by the tyrannical western governments which crippled its operations by imposition of illegal sanctions.

Zimbabwe is a sovereign nation state that was punished for exercising its total independence, particularly by correcting colonial injustices through land re-possession and re-distribution to the local majority blacks that were deprived of their prime farming land for nearly a century by the British white settlers.

The Zimbabwean Government should be credited for remaining resilient in the face of international demonization when the rest of the world was experiencing global economic recession. Some countries succumbed to the recession by; for instance, Greece is bleeding due to such effects in the absence of economic embargoes as is the case with us.

The global economic recession is impacting negatively on commodity prices of our local resources like diamond, gold, cotton and platinum on the global market. In spite of all these misdemeanors, the government is doing its best compared to others in the region, some of which are heavily dependent on donor funds to service their budgets. It is unimaginable that some countries, whose national annual budgets are cushioned up to 70% by donor funds, would manage survive under economic sanctions like what Zimbabwe did for the past one and half decades.

Zimbabwe is the only nation state which achieved total economic and political independence in Africa, and is a suitable rare case study for the world.

The best achievement associated with ZANU-PF Government is the permanent existence of peace and stability in the country since its attainment of independence on 18 April 1980, while other states are torn apart either by civil wars terroristic activities.

Typical example is Somalia where not even a government exists. It's a totally failed state where killings, rampant crimes and lawlessness are the order of the day. Terror groups, like Boko Haram, are causing gross violation of peace and stability in Nigeria. Day and night human lives are lost with no tangible solution in the foreseeable future. Therefore, human beings are fleeing from this terror with no end. This is visible here in Zimbabwe as we normally receive refugees flocking from war torn countries in central and eastern Africa.

After years of artificial recession caused by the imposition of illegal sanctions, Zimbabwe is on the recovery path, and is trying everything possible to re-engage the European Union to normalize relations so as to re-boot economic ties. This would see the re-vitalization of the ailing economy which in turn can turn-around the livelihoods of everyone.

In the face of all these challenges, Zimbabwe is able to rely on its local resources to sustain its nationhood despite that international multilateral institutions, like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank, closed doors to any form of lending to this country. The little financial resources available are harnessed to cater for all the essentials that are necessary to keep the nation going.

It is imperative to note that these trying times are unavoidable to any nation state that goes through a revolution like ours. It is also critical to note that no revolution was won in one day as it is a process which takes many years if not decades to accomplish. There is need to shrug-off neo-colonial legacy to lead lives which are independent from former egocentric colonial masters of the west. If ever we are to interact with the west, it should be at business levels as equal partners.

One of the best accomplishments of the current government is the minimization of high profile crimes like murder. These are common in many other countries in the region where one's live is in danger almost every day. Human lives are at risk every minute, while in this country such crimes are less owing to effective policing by the state. This makes it a safe environment for investment where there is guaranteed peace and stability.

The land reform programme transferred the means of production from white minority settlers to black majority. In the meantime the government is importing agricultural equipment in order to boost production on the farms.

The Chinese have been contracted to expand Kariba Power Station for the generation of more electricity, while at the same time upgrading of highways across the country is in progress. All these amount to the best ways in which economic enablers are enhanced by government efforts. This is also backed by a vibrant education sector which inculcates varied skills which are essential for national development.

The mega deals that President Robert Mugabe signed during his state visit to China are now materializing. The Asian investors announced that they will be bank-rolling the infrastructural projects soon. This will see a remarkable turn-around in the economy as well as creation of employment.

The ZANU-PF Government is defying all odds in the face of overwhelming challenges!
