Obert Gutu's comments expose his mediocrity

21 Nov 2015 at 07:36hrs | Views
It really surprises and boggles the mind that the opposition party MDC-T, is out of touch with reality. The MDC-T has been criticizing President Mugabe over his recent invitation and visit to Turkey claiming that he had no business at the G20 Summit that was currently held there.

President Mugabe is currently the African Union (AU) Chairman. Therefore, his invite to the G20 Summit was meant for him to represent the whole continent. Africa needed a voice to be heard at the G20 Summit. It is pleasing that the African voice was listened to through the speech that was made by the AU chairperson, President Mugabe.

Although Zimbabwe is not a member of the G20, it heartening that President Mugabe managed to share his ideas with the G20 leadership. G20 is an international forum for the governments and central bank governors from 20 major economies of the world. G20 summit is held annually.

Honestly, I don't see any reason why MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu complained and criticized President Mugabe's presence at the G20 Summit. Gutu's argument that Zimbabwe is not amongst the 20 major economies of the world, hence President was not supposed to attend the summit does not hold water. Gutu should be advised that not being party of the G20 does not restrict President Mugabe from attending such meetings if he is invited.

Most people will agree with me that there was no awkwardness for the President when he attended the G20 Summit. In his utterances, Gutu nonsensically mentioned that President Mugabe's presence at the G20 meeting was an embarrassment. Actually, his presence there raised the Zimbabwean and African flag high. I am quite sure that President Mugabe's involvement in the G20 Summit was actually a benefit to Zimbabwe and the African continent at large.

Whenever President Mugabe goes for a business meeting, it is common knowledge that he must be accompanied. Zimbabwe is not the only country that sends a delegation to accompany the President on his business trips. It is not surprising that most Heads of State who attended the G20 Summit were also accompanied by their delegations.

Also, Gutu must be aware that South African President Jacob Zuma went to the Summit representing his country which is a member of the G20.

Most people will agree with me that opposition political parties have an important role to play which is proffering the government with constructive ideas to develop the economy. As it stands, MDC-T is there to criticize the ruling government. For instance, in Parliament sessions, most opposition legislatures never proffer alternative policies that compliment Government programmes. They never mention any progress taking place in their constituencies, if any.  All they can do is to boo and criticize Government policies.

Gutu's propaganda should make sense. Continued brainless propaganda will not at all make the MDC-T to rule this nation. If the MDC-T continues to behave in such a manner, they should never expect their boss Morgan Tsvangirai to be a chairperson of any regional or African board.

Unless in their dreams.
Surely, one would wonder what yardstick did this man used to rate Zimbabwe as one of the 20 poorest country in the world. In actual fact, Zimbabwe is rich resources wise.
