Zimbabwean police have warned members of the public to be cautious when responding to online job offers or meeting strangers in secluded places, amid a rise in scams that have resulted in financial losses and criminal attacks.

The warning was issued through the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)’s official X account, where authorities urged citizens to remain vigilant.

“The ZRP urges members of the public to exercise extreme caution when responding to online offers, particularly job opportunities, and to avoid being lured by strangers to secluded places or private vehicles,” the police said.

The alert follows a rape case reported in Glen View 7 on 9 February, in which a 19‑year‑old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted after responding to an online job advertisement. Police said the suspect contacted the victim and arranged to meet her at Machipisa Shopping Centre before taking her to a house in Glen View 7, where the assault occurred.

The victim was later released on 10 February.
