Traffic police leading on corruption

24 Nov 2015 at 09:37hrs | Views
It is sad to note that traffic police are leading in the perpetration of corruption on our roads daily. Police are always fingered by motorists for day light-robbery as they are being coerced to pay bribes for them to go about their errands with ease. Nearly every route which leads into town everyday has a net of police officers manning a road-block.

The sad thing about these traffic cops is that they have devised a very perfect corruption strategy used against motorist, especially commuter omnibus operators. This strategy is dubbed 'Road-code'.

Under this strategy, each operator is expected to subscribe to the police through their point-men at the rank who pocket the daily takings. In turn, the operator gets a road-code which will be communicated to all traffic police manning that route.

The subscribed operator will pass through the road-blocks without any hustles. This technique is well syndicated that it is not easy for the ordinary to discover how the net is knit. One can only discover through interface with the victims who are enduring this pain silently for the sake of remaining in business.

Meanwhile, this corruption strategy that stinks to Hades is rampant on commuter omnibuses that ply City-Hatfield/Maruva/Glenhood/Manyame routes. But certainly, this is frustrating to note that the police are stripping the public with wanton abandon without any possibility of being nabbed anytime soon.

Surely who will police the police if the police are leading on the crime radar? These are State agents that are turning the sword against the state. They are exploiting the art of crime intelligence that they attained during their training to commit the same crimes they are supposed to fight. Our society is in real danger if this trend continues unabated. It's time for us all to join hands in fighting such crimes committed by the police while we watch. The buck stops with the Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri!
