Dynamos held to a goalless draw, abandonment of ritual blamed

A section of irate DeMbare fans on Good Friday called for Mutasa's head after watching their misfiring team being held to a goalless draw by a disciplined Hwange in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League tie at Rufaro. Mutasa had all sorts of obscenities hurled his way after a game his lads would have lost were it not for some wayward shooting by the Chipangano strike force.
The Dynamos gaffer was, among other things, accused of giving his "Kiglon boys" preference when selecting the team, abandoning the underworld rituals that have become part of the culture at the Harare giants and not being readily open to advice.
Whilst the club's faithful were tearing into Mutasa some members of the Dynamos board of governors urged club chairman Farai Munetsi and his executive "to tell the young man that this club has a culture and elders who should be respected".
"Every home has its elders and Lloyd must learn to respect us. This business of making the club abandon the things (rituals) we have always done should cease because the young man is just an employee.
"It's the father and not the son who calls the shots in any home," a member of the DeMbare board could be heard saying.
Swift reaction by the police cooled a situation that could have turned nasty. There was very little good about Dynamos on Good Friday.
The Harare giants never got into the groove with chief striker Rodrick Mutuma having another off day, Devon Chafa ' who reclaimed his position ahead of Milton Makopa ' looking lost and Archieford Gutu starting from the bench.
With Hwange content with sitting back as they waited to pounce on the counter, Dynamos, who employed a twin strike force of Mutuma and Martin Vengesayi, found themselves with so much possession it must have confused them.
DeMbare's first crack at goal did not come until a minute before half-time and a defender was at the end of it.
Vice-captain George Magariro rammed his shot into the upright after Mukamba's swinging corner saw Sibanda and his defenders getting into each other's way.
Mutasa went for broke early in the second half, pulling out Desmond Maringwa and Murape Murape for the skilful pair of Gutu and Farai Vimisayi but DeMbare never got going.
However, that did not stop Mutuma from producing an early contender for the miss of the season.
Hwange stand-in coach Nation Dube hailed his boys for their tactical discipline. "A point away from home is not bad especially when you are playing such a big team as Dynamos, but one cannot help but get the feeling that we deserved more from this game.
However, I am hopeful that things will come together soon as we are doing everything but scoring," he said.
