Tanzania 1 - 0 Zimbabwe
Ian Gorowa's men, the Warriors went down to Tanzania Sunday by a goal to nil in a match played at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Tanzania's winner came through in the 13th minute of the first half from a strike by DR Congo TP Mazembe striker John Bocco.
The Warriors needed an away goal in the first leg encounter to ease pressure on themselves in the return leg coming up in a fortnight.
The match is one of 14 first round ties that were scheduled across the continent this weekend.
The group stage will adopt a round-robin format and the top two sides from each of the seven groups as well as the best third-placed team will join hosts Morocco in next year's Afcon finals.
The 2015 Afcon tournament is scheduled to run from January 17 to February 8.
Warriors coach Gorowa was forced to travel to Tanzania with a squad dominated by locally-based players, following injury and illness enforced withdrawals by some of the foreign based players who had been called into camp.
The Kaizer Chiefs duo of Kingstone Nkhatha and Willard Katsande failed to turn up for camp citing injury and illness respectively, while Simba Sithole of Ajax Cape Town was forced out of the travelling contingent as he was injured on the first day of training.
Warriors Squad:
Goalkeepers: Washington Arubi, George Chigova
Defenders: Hardlife Zvirekwi, Eric Chipeta, Partson Jaure, Milton Ncube, Ronald Pfumbidzai
Midfielders: Danny Phiri, Pascal Manhanga, Stephen Alimenda, Peter Moyo, Marshal Mudehwe, Kudakwashe Mahachi
Strikers: Tendai Ndoro, Cuthbert Malajila, Wonder Kapinda, Kudakwashe Musharu
