CRUSHING DEFEAT: Knowledge Musona's competitive debut for KV Oostende ended in an embarrassing defeat
Warriors striker Knowledge Musona endured a nightmarish competitive debut for his Belgian side KV Oostende as they fell to a 1-7 defeat at home to Kortrijk over the weekend.
Musona, who joined Oostende from German Bundesliga outfit TSG 1899 Hoffenheim last December on a two-and-a-half-year deal, scored twice on his debut for the Belgian side on January 9, a 2-0 win over Dutch club Nijmegen, but his league bow on Saturday night was a different story.
Musona started the match as one of two centre-forwards in a 4-4-2 formation. He was partnered by Senegal's 34-year old veteran Elimane Coulibaly.
But things did not go according to plan for the hosts, who found themselves 3-0 down at half-time.
Musona did however play a part in Oostende's goal after 51 minutes, setting up Frank Berrier to make it 1-3 as the home team threatened a comeback that never was.
By the time Musona was substituted in the 67th minute, Oostende were 1-4 down, with Stijn De Smet's 56th minute strike adding to goals by Teddy Chevalier (22, 45) and Ivan Santini (26).
With Musona now on the sidelines, Kortrijk scored three further goals through Thomas Matton (76, 89) and Tuur Dierckx in the fifth minute of stoppage time, to register an emphatic away win.
Following the crushing defeat, Oostende are 10th on the 16-team Belgian Jupiler League log standings with 28 points from 21 games, while Kortrijk are third with 37 points from 22 games.
Meanwhile, Musona's former teammate at Aces Youth Soccer Academy, Khama Billiat, was among the goalscorers as Mamelodi Sundowns continued their build-up to the caf Champions League and resumption of Absa Premiership with a 3-1 win over Swaziland's Manzini Sundowns in Mpumalanga.
According to reports from South Africa, the reigning Absa Premiership champions raced into an early lead courtesy of a fine finish from Billiat.
Manzini however levelled matters just after the interval, only for the Brazilians to restore their advantage through another Zimbabwean, Cithbert Malajila, who converted from the penalty spot.
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pisto Mosimane then made a raft of changes after Malajila's goal, bringing on five players, among them highly rated winger Kudakwashe Mahachi.
Mahachi would make an immediate impact, providing the cross for Senegalese forward Mame Niang to score the Brazilians' third goal from close range.
