Chiyangwa blasts police over gate-takings

Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) president Philip Chiyangwa last night blasted police after officers demanded payment soon after the Warriors match against Swaziland.
By the time of going to print, Zifa chief cashier only identified as Saika was still locked in the cash office at the National Sports Stadium as determined police officers refused to release him unless they got their dues for providing security during the tie.
Zimbabwe won the match 4-0 with goals from Knowledge Musona, Costa Nhamoinesu, Evans Rusike and Khama Billiart to ensure Calisto Pasuwa's charges seize control of Group L in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Cup qualifiers.
The behaviour exhibited by the police officers did not go down well with Chiyangwa who questioned the security personnel's sincerity in helping develop sport in the country.
"Police should be able to protect people without being paid. This cannot be allowed to continue, who will protect the people when police demand money like this," Chiyangwa fumed.
"During the Mighty Warriors' match, police collected 40 percent of gate takings, now they are at it again. I will order the Zifa secretariat not to hire them again.
"It's better to use private security. police officers cannot grab large chunks of money when the real players don't get anything. Do the police play football?
"We have not paid the players who won the match but the police want to be the first to get paid. What is this, do they not have a duty to protect the people for free, they get salaries at the end of the month and why should citizens pay them extra?"
