Dembare gets Gwekwerere clearance

DYNAMOS secretary-general Webster Chikengezha believes the arrival of Evans Gwekwerere will help boost the Glamour Boys' options in attack after the club finally got his International Transfer Certificate yesterday.

Gwekwerere, who could mark his third stint with the former champions this weekend in the Harare Derby against CAPS United, got his clearance from Mozambique where he had last played for Premier League outfit Ferroviario de Maputo and second tier side Text Africa.

Chikengezha yesterday said the coaches will decide whether they want to play him on Sunday. But there is excitement in the DeMbare camp as coach Paulo Jorge Silva is happy with the signing and could be tempted to give the returning striker time on the pitch.

"Obviously we are all happy because it increases competition. It's only natural that where there are many players queuing for one position, they may as well all need to work harder to get picked for a match.

"I think this is one area where our coaches had limited options but now they have one more player to look at as per their request. "They told us they wanted strikers and they recommended to us Evans. The leadership acted expeditiously and today I am glad to announce that his ITC is now out.

"So I believe we have done our duty. We have given the technical team what they have asked for. And if they want to play him on the Derby it's up to them. It's all up to them how they use their players," said Chikengezha.

Gwekwerere, who has been training with the team, was part of the squad that is preparing for the big clash against traditional rivals CAPS United this weekend. But could he be the answer to the team's woes in front of goal?

While the stocky forward still has his fine touch, it appears he needs to work more on conditioning his body and to improve match fitness. Gwekwerere, who turned 31 on Wednesday, appears a bit overweight, and may need extra hours in the gym to shed some kilos.

The Dynamos strikeforce had been their weakest link this season. The Glamour Boys had a pathetic barren spell in the first five matches that included league and cup games which led the executive to give Silva a three-match ultimatum.

The DeMbare coach could have made a big blunder by letting one of their top marksmen last season, Takesure Chinyama, go and then failing to fill the hole. Their strikers Rodreck Mutuma, Richard Kawondera, Farai Mupasiri and Kelvin Bulaji are yet to get into the groove and this has forced Silva to turn to rookies Kudzanayi Nyakasaka and King Nasama in the hope of better fortunes.

DeMbare this week welcome Kawondera who served a two-match suspension for the red card he picked at Chicken Inn in the season opener which ended in a 0-3 drubbing. The Glamour Boys, however, go into the big match on the back of a maiden league win after they beat Mutare City Rovers 2-1 at Sakubva last Sunday.

Dynamos yesterday announced that supporters will have to fork out a bit more to watch this year's derby when they have hiked the gate charges. Chikengezha said the cheapest ticket for the rest of the ground will cost $5, the Upper grandstand $10 and $15 for the VIP section. "It's our wish to maintain a flat fee for all the matches but if you look at the big games against CAPS United or Highlanders, the costs of hosting are much higher compared to all the other home assignments that we may have in a season.

"This is because in these high profile games, we are required to bring in more security details, more personnel to man the turnstiles and at the end of the day the costs are always high. So we don't want a situation where we end up counting losses," said Chikengezha.
